Chang Lab, UCSF
Research lab · San Francisco, California, USA
Edward Chang's lab decodes speech from the brain surface, including real-time talking avatars for people who cannot speak.
The lab pioneered speech neuroprostheses using high-density ECoG. In September 2026 it reported in Nature Neuroscience a BCI that decodes speech and upper-body gestures at the same time to drive a full-body avatar.
