The nonprofit Astera Institute has launched Astera Neuro, committing more than $600 million over the next decade. Neuroscientist Doris Tsao, known for discovering how the brain encodes faces and objects, joins as chief scientist. The program aims to map how the brain represents information, develop new neural interventions, and use insights about biological intelligence to inform AI research.

Private philanthropy is becoming a major force in neuroscience, alongside government programs such as the NIH BRAIN Initiative.
