Rice University launches a Brain Institute spanning neuroengineering and neuroscience
The Houston institute brings together Rice's neuroengineering, neuroscience and brain-and-society programs with Texas Medical Center partners.
Rice University has launched the Rice Brain Institute, uniting three programs: neuroengineering, neuroscience, and brain and society. It will focus on neurodegeneration, mental health, brain injury and neurodevelopment. Rice says its Neuroengineering Initiative, co-directed by Behnaam Aazhang and Jacob Robinson, has secured more than $78 million in research funding. The institute works with partners at the Texas Medical Center, including Houston Methodist.
Rice’s engineers develop miniature wireless brain stimulators and other next-generation neural interfaces.
