Spiro Medical raises $67 million for a nerve-stimulation treatment for severe asthma

The Series A funds a pulmonary neuromodulation system that targets the airway nerves involved in asthma symptoms.

In briefFundingNeuromodulation

Spiro Medical has raised a $67 million Series A led by Andera Partners, Omega Funds and Sherpa Healthcare Partners to develop its Pulmonary Neuromodulation System for severe asthma. The approach targets the nerves of the airways, since many asthma symptoms stem partly from overactive nerve reflexes rather than inflammation alone.

It is part of the growth of “bioelectronic medicine”, which uses nerve stimulation to treat conditions usually managed with drugs, from arthritis to bladder control.
