Science acquired the PRIMA system, a wireless photovoltaic chip placed under the retina that is powered by infrared light projected from glasses. It is aimed at people with geographic atrophy, an advanced form of age-related macular degeneration. The company also researches “biohybrid” interfaces that use engineered neurons.
