Optogenetics
A research technique that genetically makes neurons light-sensitive so they can be switched on or off with light.
Optogenetics changed neuroscience by letting researchers control specific cell types with millisecond precision, mostly in animals. Early human trials have explored it for restoring some vision in retinal disease.
