Spinal cord stimulation

Also known as: SCS, Epidural stimulation

Electrical stimulation of the spinal cord, used for chronic pain and, more recently, to restore movement after spinal cord injury.

Targeted stimulation can “wake up” spinal circuits below an injury. Combined with a brain implant that detects the intention to walk, it forms a “digital bridge” around the injury, as shown by EPFL’s .NeuroRestore and ONWARD Medical.
