The surgery at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle continues an NIH-funded study of closed-loop brain stimulation for arm recovery.

CorTec has implanted its fully implantable Brain Interchange system in a second stroke patient, at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. The FDA-approved, NIH-funded study is led by Jeffrey Ojemann (University of Washington) and Steven Cramer (UCLA). The closed-loop system records brain activity and delivers targeted stimulation to support recovery of arm movement. CorTec says the first participant made notable gains.

Two months later, that first participant used the same implant to control a computer by thought (our coverage).
