Neuralink hires the FDA's top neurological device regulator to lead medical affairs
David McMullen, who directed the FDA office overseeing neurological devices including BCIs, joins the company in late December.
Neuralink has hired David McMullen to lead medical affairs, starting December 22, 2025. For more than three years McMullen directed the FDA’s Office of Neurological and Physical Medicine Devices, the unit that reviews brain-computer interfaces, and he previously worked at DARPA and the NIH.
Hiring a senior regulator signals Neuralink’s shift toward the approval stage. It also adds to a wider debate about staff moving from the FDA into companies it oversees.
