Precision Neuroscience details its minimally invasive surface implant in Nature Biomedical Engineering

In Nature Biomedical Engineering, the company reports high-bandwidth recording and stimulation through a sub-millimeter slit in the skull, without open surgery.

Precision Neuroscience has published a peer-reviewed study of its Layer 7 cortical interface in Nature Biomedical Engineering. The paper describes placing 1,024-electrode thin-film arrays on the brain’s surface through a “micro-slit” less than a millimeter wide, without a full craniotomy, and reports results from five patients plus animal and cadaver work. The same electrodes could both record and stimulate.

The company says more than 50 people have now been implanted temporarily. The results support its argument that surface implants can capture high-quality signals without penetrating the brain.
