ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis)

Also known as: Lou Gehrig's disease, Motor neuron disease, MND

A progressive disease that destroys the nerve cells controlling muscles, eventually affecting speech, movement and breathing.

Thinking and the motor cortex’s intention signals often stay intact even as muscles fail. That makes people with ALS among the main candidates for communication BCIs.
