FDA approves LivaNova's aura6000 nerve stimulator for obstructive sleep apnea
The six-electrode hypoglossal nerve system activates airway muscles; 65% of patients responded at 12 months in the OSPREY trial.
The FDA has approved LivaNova’s aura6000 system for adults with moderate-to-severe obstructive sleep apnea who can’t use or tolerate CPAP. The implant stimulates the hypoglossal nerve near its base with six electrodes, activating the muscles that keep the airway open. In the randomized OSPREY trial, 65% of patients were responders at 12 months.
It gives Inspire Medical Systems its first major US competitor in hypoglossal nerve stimulation.
