Insightec spins out Lotus Neuro to deliver drugs across the blood-brain barrier with ultrasound
The new company will pair low-intensity focused ultrasound with drugs, starting with brain tumors including glioblastoma.
Insightec has spun out Lotus Neuro, a clinical-stage company that will use precise, low-frequency focused ultrasound to briefly open the blood-brain barrier so drugs can reach the brain. Its first programs target brain tumors (glioblastoma and diffuse midline glioma), with early work in neurodegenerative disease. Former Insightec executive Arjun Desai is CEO, and Nexus NeuroTech Ventures is backing the company.
The blood-brain barrier blocks most drugs from reaching the brain, and ultrasound is one of the few non-invasive ways to get past it.
