Channel count

Also known as: Electrode count, Channels

The number of separate recording sites a device has. More channels generally means more information about the brain.

Channel counts have grown from tens to thousands. Neuralink’s N1 has 1,024 electrodes and Precision’s Layer 7 has 1,024 per film. But quantity isn’t everything: what matters is how many useful neural signals each channel picks up, and for how long.
