Information transfer rate (ITR)
Also known as: ITR, Bit rate, Words per minute
How much information a BCI can communicate per unit of time, often given in bits per second or words per minute.
ITR combines speed and accuracy, so different BCIs can be compared. For context, natural conversation runs at about 150 words per minute. Recent speech BCIs have reached tens of words per minute, and some report rates near conversational speed.
