EMG (electromyography)

Also known as: Electromyography, sEMG, Surface EMG

Recording the electrical signals of muscles. Neural interfaces use it to detect intended movements at the wrist or in a residual limb.

Each muscle contraction is triggered by motor neurons, so EMG indirectly reads signals from the nervous system. Meta’s Neural Band turns subtle finger movements into commands, and prosthetic arms use EMG from the remaining muscles. It’s a neural interface, but not strictly a brain-computer interface.
